Case Study 1

This Client had been struggling to overcome anxiety for almost 3 years.

18 months school counselling and 6 months Private Counselling had been tried but neither managed to assist her difficulties effectively in this case.

She saw myself for assessment and then for one session of Coaching and Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) which lasted one hour. Her immediate outcomes were fantastic to see and the positive effects have been lasting.

When coaching began this Client was looking to drop out of University applications due to excess stress. She went on from Coaching to qualify with four A Grade A-Levels and has since begun University.

IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) was thee ultimate tool in this case.

This case was quite astounding in terms of how quickly we achieved massive change so I will write some more about that here.

It was the first time that I used the technique following my training. The Client  said that it was like all the cogs in her head that had been stuck had freed up and that everything was now allowed to make sense, and for the first time in too long she could feel okay again.

This Client had attended school counselling for 12 months and private counselling for 6 months but through those modalities was not able to get rid of the ‘iron bars’ which were her anxiety. She reported that these ‘iron bars’ held her back and that although she could agree with her parents, friends and counsellors about the fears were irrational or weren’t real in the present moment, she couldn’t FEEL okay about this.

IEMT can be amazing for shifting strong physiological barriers and difficult emotions. It is especially good with PTSD, phobias and anxiety.

“James is really friendly and optimistic, and will explain things well.

My expectations for this coaching program were: To be more relaxed, become more independent and feel safe in doing so, and to enjoy life more!

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are: I can now sleep without a lamp on at night, I can walk anywhere on my own and feel safe, and exam season is now less of a worry.

I used to feel unsafe on my own, and suffer with anxiety and panic attacks due to excessive worrying but after working with you I can now feel safe being on my own. I can sleep well at night and definitely no longer worry as much!

Thank you for helping me get to my ideal state – Lauren 2.0!

I would recommend anyone to this service who suffers from the same/similar problems, as we were successful eliminating them!”

What did you think of your experience with I.E.M.T.?

I found that it really helped in relieving me of my excessive worrying patterns.

What has been the outcome of your I.E.M.T. experience?

I now no longer put unnecessary pressure on myself, and find that when I am presented with a task I no longer stress about it, I just dive right in and tackle it!

Case Study 2

The following client had been struggling with negative thinking and pessimism.

He was struggling to adapt to a new phase in his life and was sceptical about how significant change could be possible or how coaching could be effective.

Counselling techniques, Coaching and Metaphor Work were all combined in working with this Client.

It was necessary to work in this way to allow the Client to come beyond his barriers to being able to live his own life as he needed to. The Client’s beliefs about himself and the world were causing significant unhappiness. It was great transcend these and for him to take his new found perspective and capability forwards in his life.

“James is Happy, Confident and reassuring.

My expectations for this coaching program were: Nothing much, expected me to be stuck in my old way of thinking however I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the experience!

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are: Confidence, Calmness and positive thinking processes.

Before working with James, I was an under-confident, slightly paranoid and pessimistic person. However, through working with him over the past few weeks he’s made look at life through a different pair of ‘lenses’. A more positive outlook and that I can achieve the things I want to if I just believe I will. Over time, I saw these lessons manifest themselves within me and I cannot wait to reap the benefits.

Thank you for guiding me through a difficult patch and I wish you and your clients every success in the future!”

Case Study 3

The following Client struggled with low self-belief and critical, negative thinking.

She had been told by others, and believed, that any form of Counselling, Psychotherapy or Life Coaching had to take a significant length of time to achieve successful change.

They also expected that it meant going back through difficult past events and childhood memories in order to resolve issues. We saw each other for two sessions and focused very little focus on past events.

Psychology Coaching, NLP and IEMT.

“James has a calming influence, spoke in a clear, concise manner and explained well.

My expectations for this coaching program were: To be able to think positively and not to be worrying about things that had not happened.

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are:  Self-belief, the bag and the jug!!

I used to struggle to have belief in myself. Being critical about myself was the main hurdle. I thought I lacked confidence.

But after working with you I am able to be more positive which in turn leads me to be less critical about myself and enables me to be happier within.

Thank you for the self-belief.

I would recommend anyone to have life coaching.”

Case Study 4

The Following Client suffered with Post-Traumatic Stress following a near-fatal bus crash. The application of IEMT relieved the triggers which caused 10 years of struggling with Post-Traumatic symptoms, in one hour.

IEMT was a huge help to this Client. Counselling skills and Coaching approaches were also used to bring perspective and change around underlying beliefs and negative emotions.

“The 3 things I would like to say about my coach are:

Supportive, understanding and professional.

I used to be fearful of the thought of travelling on a bus/coach and thought I would never do this again. I used to experience a tightening of my throat at the very thought of stepping onto a bus/coach. I used to feel that any bus or coach would tip over especially when travelling around a corner, and I struggled to drive next to buses or coaches on the motorway, often having to look the other way. My legs used to jerk as I thought of the bus/coach tipping over. I feared which seat I would to choose to sit on or my family as I was fearful that the same accident would happen and it would be my fault if I had chosen the ‘wrong’seat.

After working with my coach I have no fear about stepping onto a bus/coach or indeed travelling on one.  A week after the coaching session, I travelled some 50miles on the top deck of a double decker bus, something I thought I would never do following the bus crash almost 10 years ago. I no longer experience the spontaneous leg jerks or tightness of my throat or chest. I know that travelling on a bus/coach is ‘normal’.

Thank you for enabling me to be free from my negative emotions and physiological responses. To be able to travel on a bus/coach and feel relaxed and enjoy the experience. To go on holiday and use a transfer coach. To travel with friends in a minibus taxi without isolating myself sat in the front. To feel and do what is seen as ‘normal’!

I would recommend anyone to further look into I.E.M.T  and to experience it. It has been a success for me and I’m sure it can help many more people. It’s quick, non-invasive and leaves you feeling quite liberated!!”

What did you think of your experience with I.E.M.T.?

I wasn’t sure what to expect at all but went with an open mind. The experience is something not easy to explain, but is very positive and helped me to see and understand what I have been feeling and experiencing over the past 10 years and to understand that I no longer have to experience these negative emotions. The whole process was relaxing and quite surreal. There is nothing scary or to be fearful of, it’s just a case of letting your brain do what it needs to do! I still can’t believe that the negative emotions and physiological responses that I have been living with for the past 10years in relation to bus and coach travel have disappeared.

What has been the outcome of your I.E.M.T. experience?

My fear of going on a bus/coach has disappeared completely. Since having one session of I.E.M.T, I have successfully travelled in the back of a mini-bus taxi and travelled on the top deck of a double decker bus, even sat at the front!

I have travelled in a car as a passenger next to steep drops off the side of the road and was able to feel relaxed and not picture us rolling down.

I have been able to look at buses/coaches travelling on the road without fearing that they will tip over, and have overtaken them on the motorway without a second thought!

I am so very thankful and grateful to my coach, James Marquis, for successfully coaching me and enabling me to live for the now, rather than letting my bad memories and negative emotions rule my life!

What do you feel this outcome has meant for you?

I feel like a weight has been lifted and I no longer have to live in fear of what might happen on a bus/coach. I do not need to worry about which seat to sit on or my family on a bus/coach. I can feel relaxed and enjoy the ride.

I can feel ‘normal’ and do what is considered to be a ‘normal’ method of travelling. I can travel on transfer coaches on holiday rather than having to hire a car, and I can travel on a minibus with friends on a night out without having to request to sit in the front seat away from my group of friends.

Would you recommend to others that they consider the potential of I.E.M.T.?

Absolutely!!! I already have recommended a friend.

Is there anything else you would like to add to assist in the development of I.E.M.T.?

If my feedback could be used to encourage others to try I.E.M.T, then please use it!

Case Study 6

The following Client was a bright young lady leading an active and successful life but who struggled internally with anxiety and low self-belief.

“My expectations for this coaching program were: To become a more independent individual by confronting my anxiety and fears in a positive way to help me move forward with my life.

I used to struggle with anxiety and leading an independent life confidently without aid or support from others but now after working with you, I feel I can face and live life again to the fullest. I now can see my battle with anxiety as another building block to helping me become a stronger person for the future.

Can’t thank you enough James, you have changed my life!”

Case Study 7

The following Client was struggling with self-harm at a young age.

“James understood why I was stuck in the place I am. James did not pity me whilst I explained to him how I was feeling; this really helped as I did not feel like I was being judged. James seemed to be more like a friend than a counsellor.

My expectations for this coaching program were: For me to find a way to understand my feelings without increasing my self-hatred.

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are: I had somebody to talk to. I know I can cope better. I am now able to explain and analyse my feelings and thoughts, without getting frustrated.

I used to feel done with life, as though there was nothing left for me to fight for.  I was convinced that I was useless to the world, that I wasn’t good enough, as though nobody would care if I was dead. I self-harmed and I was suicidal. It seemed like the easiest option to get rid of the hurt I felt. I knew people loved me but I was never able to feel it. I never felt happy, I had a mask to cover up how I really felt and I pretended I was fine for far too long.

After working with my coach it has given me ways to express my feelings without self-harming. Step by step we found a way around many of my problems; we didn’t necessarily eliminate all of them but we found a way to cope with it better than how I was used to doing for so long. I send all my gratitude to James for helping me through this time. I dread to think where I would be if I hadn’t gotten any help. And for that reason I recommend this program to anybody who feels as though they are trapped, those who feel helpless and those who need something to live for.”

Case Study 8

The following feedback is from the father of a young Client.

“James is personable, confident and well trained.

My expectations for this coaching program were: More than exceeded, the relaxed and informal atmosphere helped greatly to achieve the positive outcome wanted.

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are: Strong relationship building between my daughter and James. Clear communication, trust building was excellent.

I had found it very difficult to communicate with my daughter regarding certain issues that she was having. James provided a very positive and trustable communication line between my daughter’s issues and my concerns. This led to directly allowing father and daughter to communicate much better. In turn the whole family has benefited from the counselling and the same skills are being used to ‘support’ other siblings.

I really can not recommend James enough, excellence in his field would be a massive understatement.”

Case Study 9

The following client experienced feelings of anxiety and self-doubt in relation to having secured property or leaving it safe. She has gone forward making progress after just one session.

“The 3 things I would like to say about my coach are:

1. Put me at ease, understood what I was trying to explain, was very honest about what to expect from my treatment.

2. I feel I have benefited from working with James. It is early days and I have already felt better with my obsessive compulsive disorder and if things carry on in this way I would strongly agree with the benefits.

3. My expectations for this coaching program were: That I would feel relieved of the horrible feelings I get when I think I have left my front door unlocked, the cooker on or taps running when I leave the house or my work place.

After 1 session I feel so much better so in my case further work may not be required.

I have already recommended James to friends and family and will most certainly refer any anxious patients I have, with the confidence he will improve their quality of life.”

Case Study 10

The following client had been struggling with anxiety and crippling feelings of panic. She had been prescribed different forms of medication by her GP in attempts to placate her symptoms but these were never any form of effective treatment. This had only added to feelings of inability to cope and overcome her difficulties. Change came when this client truly began to address the causes of her anxiety.

The 3 things I would like to say about my coach are:

Caring, genuine, good hearted.

I suffered severely with anxiety and panic attacks.

But after working with James I know how to control the my thoughts and I am prepared through having this training how to control and deal with future attacks (hopefully none)

Thank you for all the follow up phone calls, which were really really helpful to me and all the kindness shown when I was in distress

I would recommend this service to anyone who is suffering.

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are:

1: When my anxiety comes I have to recognise it and face it.

2: When I felt like I was getting better I had to prepare myself to face it again and remember all the points James had learnt me.

3: Understanding what is happening when you have a panic attack and not allowing it to scare you.

Case Study 11

The following Client came along with a significant fear of flying.

My expectations for this coaching program were:

I didn’t expect much! My fear was so overwhelming that I didn’t think there would be much that could genuinely be done. Thankfully, I was proven wrong!

The 3 top benefits I received from working with my coach are:

That irrational thoughts have subsided.

That I travelled to America and had the best experiences of my life.

That I know I can move forward and continue to travel the world!

The 3 things I would like to say about my coach are:

He is calm, patient and compassionate.

He has done something that I never thought possible!

He created a plan that I could refer back to, so when I felt I couldn’t get on a plane I had his guidance without him being there!

If James can cure my fear of flying, he can achieve anything!

If you were taking any prescribed medications before our coaching sessions which you have now reduced or stopped due to our progress, please could you share a little note about them here.

Part of my insomnia, which I had prescribed medication to help control, was due to my fear of

flying. I no longer take these… and I no longer have insomnia!

My fear of flying had become so bad that it had started to consume everything I did. I wouldn’t travel; I held my partner back from travelling and going on holidays, too. Friends had to reconsider where they would have their hen parties and 30ths. It impacted on my sleep: I would wake with night terrors about being on a plane and be close to panic whenever I thought about getting on one.

My boyfriend booked a weekend away in Dublin over Christmas – I didn’t eat for a week leading up to this, and I cried and panicked for the full 35 minute flight. I also ruined the time we spent there as I was filled with sheer panic at the thought of flying back home.

After ONE SESSION with Illuminate Coaching I felt calmer. Confident. I can’t say that I looked forward to getting onto a plane (far from it!), but I knew that deep down I could do it.

As a result, I flew to New York on the 31st July. I had the most magical time, and I can’t believe that I have denied myself these experiences for the last 30 years!!!

From there we flew to Miami. From Miami we flew to Vegas. We then drove to LA, which meant a 14 hour flight back to the UK… and I did it all!

Illuminate Coaching altered the way I processed my (irrational) thoughts. James also gave me a reference point to look back on, which I used before every flight I boarded.

Thank you for opening my eyes to the wider world. I couldn’t recommend you and your services highly enough
